Quick question....IS the Dunlop SL4 the Spec Tire for the 2009 season? I thought we have a contract for the Dunlop through 2009. Before I consider buying any tires this fall I want to make sure that I could use them next year.

Also, it will be SL4 and not SL6, correct?

I assume shifters will remain open tire also?

Thanks,

Mike

To my understanding, there is no SL6 in the 6.00 size, so if we switch, are we going to run the juniors on 7.10 rears, as well as the senior can classes?

T, I believe you are right. The contract is thru 09.\
So 2010 would be the year to change tires.

Spock: Were I to invoke logic, however, logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Kirk: Or the one.

If one were to apply this to the decisions that the BOD makes , you can see that most of them put there personal agendas aside and look at doing what is best for the club as a whole and not what would help themselves the most .

John,

I seem to remember a few years ago when the SL^\6 reared it's head, that there were 6.00 tires submitted for testing by the BoD. Seems I remembner Mr Lewis being given a pair at the last race of 2006 to evaluate.

There may be, but I don't see them as being offered by anyone??? I looked at a couple of suppliers that we use, and don't see them I would take the time to find out more, but I don't think the tires will change.

Mike,

I'd hold off no matter what. Tires get hard over time, especially if not stored correctly.

Let the kart shop store the tires or get them for you when you need them in the spring.

John,

They are listed in the new Russell Catalog, pg 143. 450's, 600's and 7.10's

why not just align the tire rules with WKA, Man cup tire rules, Gold cup tire rules , could bring new karters, no more having to D.Q. racers at the scales, circillv could run, new castle could run and then EVERYBODY would be HAPPY Laughing Laughing Laughing

Doug,
I think after the 2009 that may just happen, Not a for sure thing. But the contract with OVKA & Russell will expire and new options can be looked into. OVKA just does not want to break relations with Russell since they do bring some value to the table as a series sponsor and items at a resonable rate for the banquet..... Surprised

I have been a sl4 supporter every since I got the first bid from Jim Russell back in the mid 90's, but it make sense to have the same tires as the MFG and Gold Cup for our club. Back when we got the SL4 tires WKA also raced with SL4 as the spec tire for many of the classes.

Our racers who want to race Divisional and or Nationals are many times at a disadvantage when it comes to kart setup since the change from SL4 tires to other tires can be quite different. It would also open up our club to just about all outsiders who would like to spend a weekend racing at OVKA since most would also be on the WKA spec tire.

Any real advantage that we get from Russell is small compared to what the racers spends on tires for a season.

I know that we will here that the National guys are just a small percentage of the club population so why should we change tires for just a few, well the non national guys are going to need tires regardless of who make them so as long as they are a good tire to race on what would be the difference.

Lest we forget, back when the club renewed the deal with Russel , no one knew that WKA was going to change there spec tire, and Circlevile was still going to run Vegas.

And Keep in mind the BOD had a very long debate regarding all the brands of tires and all the pros and Cons were put on a chart for each brand, Dunlop in the end had the best deal going that benefited the club kart
As it stands our deal is through the 2009 season.

In the end ,the BoD made the best decision for the group and not the few..

And some of those who supported the decision were running nationals as well...

Cool Okay I have to ask why should we align our tires with the nationals and not the other local clubs? Wouldn't it be smarter to be on the same ones as the surrounding tracks? If we aligned with them we would all be on YHC's. If we align with the nationals we would be on 5 different types.
MG - Reds
Bridgestone - YHC
Firestone - YFA
Dunlop - DCM
Dunlop - DDM
How much sense does that make?

My question was in regards to 2009 and it has been answered - SL4.

Let's wait until mid 2009 before discussing the 2010 season tires as too many things can change between now and then.

Yup...i saw them in the Russell catalog now, and the tires are approx., 10 bucks more per tire. I am betting that the membership would not like to pay 40 more per set.

Anyone that races WKA deals with it and I honestly hear no complaints. Most of the time you are only dealing with one brand for the class you run.

MG's for Sportsman
YHC for Jr and Sr classes
in the MFG cup so you are only talking two different tires in MFG Cup
