|
|
My chain on my Yamaha tightened up alot during the 15 lapper.I thought I had enough slack adjusted in,but by the end of the race it was tighter than a banjo string!! BTW,I found out I have one of those "trick" RLV cans that seem to blow exhaust onto the chain.I use Triflow to lube the chain.Any thoughts/suggestions?? TIA
(Oh,and Ray,I'm sure this caused a power drag that allowed you to get by me.. ..just kidding.. ..) _________________ "The future is not what it used to be"

| Hal,,I use the Xeramic to lube the chain. I don't believe that the tri flo is thick enough to stay on the chain and actually keep it lubricated for any extended periord of time. There is a lot of friction on the chain, and you need something that will act as a buffer between the chain, and the sprocket. |

The ruination of chain is the heat, and the pulling of the links.
At any given instant there are only half of the links, or less, in tension. If you get 7 Ft/Lbs of torque, you'll have about 170 Lbs distributed over less tan half of chain.
The distance between the pins and the rollers should be filled with a heave lubricant. The problem is, how to get it there.
Most aerisol cans have material that's too thin to be effective, with a few exceptions. We are using a chain lube that's heavy, but is thinned by the propellant in the can. After application the stuff "setrs up" to form a STP-like consistancy. It's recommended for the high-dollar TaG chain called Panther, not cheap, but it seems to last about ten times longer than the DID we've been using. The stuff sells for about $80 for a 114 line package, and the lube sells for about $8.00.
Another enemy is dirt. Can't do much about this except keep the chain clean as possible.
Before this stuff came out I dipped the chains in hot, 400 degree, 600W oil for about an hour, then let it drain, Messy, stinky, and time consuming, and not altogether effective. _________________ Jean Stafford

Hal,
Did your motor mount move forward instead of Chain tightend up? _________________ I am Toshiya and I approve this message. |

Check bolts between the motor mount and the motor. I had a chain tighten up during a race because these bolts were backing out. _________________ OVKA Masters #88 |

Along with the motor mount, check to see if the axle and/or sprocket carrier moved.
Misalignment can cause the chain to tighten as well.

I don't think the mount moved, cause the adjusting bolt/nut was still secured.Sounds like I need to double check the plate bolts though.I have some BG motorcycle chain lube,it's pretty thick.Think that might work?
Oh,and thanks Doug.....I think.. _________________ "The future is not what it used to be"

Hey Hal,
Also check to make sure everything is clean, sometimes oil and grease between all the mount parts and on the frame rails can cause the engine to move around a little................. Just a thought.
